The essential tool for selecting IT personnel
wpce89b14f.gif
In 1987 Psychometrics UK started supplying IT specific skills and aptitude tests to blue chip clients. Since that time our tests have become trusted by many of the UK's largest recruiters of IT personnel. They use our tests year on year to maintain the high technical standards they have established. This is often achieved by benchmarking our tests across an IT department and setting qualifying scores for new recruits. Our goal is to help our clients find the people with the best technical skills for the job.
Psychometrics Inc.
We are the UK division of Psychometrics Inc., based in Los Angeles. They have been designing tests for over 30 years and work with many Fortune 500 companies across the US. The test range we offer is developed to standards established by the US Supreme Court to ensure fairness and equal opportunity. We have to prove our tests work and supply supporting validity material. At present there is no equivalent in UK legislation and many tests are not developed to the same high standards.

The Directors of Psychometrics Inc. are Drs. Ray and Frances R. Berger and their career biographies are summarised below. They have described for us the professional standards they follow:

"We offer a carefully designed series of tests that are the best instruments for selection and evaluation in information systems. We take great pains to maintain the validity of these instruments by reviewing the intended use and security of the tests at the same time the prospective client is considering our services. We go to these lengths because our business rests on the professionalism of ourselves and you, our client. Professionalism by the test maker and decision makers is the best guarantee that candidates for jobs, training, or promotion will be evaluated objectively and that you will be rewarded with a staff of increasing excellence."

Frances R. Berger, Ph.D. received her doctorate in Psychology from UCLA. The primary emphasis in her graduate work and experience has been in the field of testing. She has collaborated in research programs at the University of Southern California, UCLA, and Science Research Associates. She was chiefly responsible for several large scale National Science Foundation studies of NSF academic institutes. Dr. Berger was a major contributor to the development of Psychometrics Inc.'s job analysis procedures, particularly in the computer personnel field. She has performed task analyses of programmer and system analyst jobs for AT&T Long Lines, Republic Steel, Security Pacific National Bank, Northwestern Mutual Life, GTE Data Services, Federal Express, and others. Her work has involved customised test construction and validity studies for many U.S. organisations, including development of an item bank of new forms of the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test. Dr. Frances Berger directs test research studies and job analyses at Psychometrics Inc.

Ray Berger, Ph.D. is a measurement psychologist. He has taught classes in statistics, industrial psychology, and research methods in the Psychology and Public Administration Departments at the University of Southern California where he was an Associate Professor. Dr. Berger's primary research interest and activity has been in the aptitudes of high level personnel. He has served as a consultant to many organisations, including the RAND corporation and the American Federation of Information Processing Societies (AFIPS). The Office of Naval Research and the Naval Command Systems Support Activity have funded computer personnel projects headed by Dr. Berger. These projects led to sponsorship, by the AFIPS Committee on Professional Standards, of industry-wide job analyses for computer programmers and systems analysts. The recognition of this work led to his appointment to the chairmanship of two National Bureaus of Standards committees concerned with establishing valid job descriptions and requirements. Dr. Ray Berger directs test development and special projects at Psychometrics Inc.
